In Congo-Kinshasa, the nomadic BA-ZULA tribe, of the LUBA ethnic group, is not overburdened with material devices.
In order to be in harmony with their environment and to be totally free to move, they own only a few goods and certainly no furniture.
Only one stool is allowed, with a wealth of symbols; it is the object of all the attentions.
It is the LUHONA, the seat of power.
It is the incarnation of the ancestors, the point of intersection of the past and present.
Its base evokes the tribe’s territory
Its four legs represent the four cardinal points and the huge extent of their territory.
The seating concentrates the energies and becomes the root of power.
When the chief sits on the LUHONA, he hides himself in his jungle.
He withdraws from the real world and thus becomes protected from any evil.
The essence of comfort and well-being, in a hostile environment, this is what we give with the LUHONA concept.
